Columbus Reversed

Columbus Reversed traces the stories of several people as their lives intertwine after Columbus "discovers" an America with far more people and advanced technology.

Nathaniel Farrington, a Bahamian sailor Columbus meets on his first landing, becomes a translator, diplomat, trade representative, love interest, and husband. Luis de Torres, Columbus’s official translator, both in the book and in real life, is his mentor in the beginning of the book and then travels to the United States to serve as Castile’s trade representative and translator, interpreting for a legal trial. His guide in the U.S. is Helen Langford, a clerk-stenographer for Naval Intelligence, and, but there’s always a question of whether she’s really only a clerk, or something more.

Other sailors, traders, lawyers, and royals round-out the cast, with a variety of stories of their own.

It’s an exciting story that hits on all aspects of life affected by the discovery and how the reversal in technology would change things. Meticulously researched, the events in the east are accurate to 1492 Castile and Aragon. The events in the west take place in 1492 but accurately represent technology equivalent to that of 1942. People, places, businesses, customs, even exchange rates are all based on real equivalents whenever they are known.
